Cruce day 1
We have woken up at 5am, and at 6 we´ve found ourselves jumping on the buses that would take us to the starting line at the volcano ski center. Today, it has been for most of the time bordering the Villarica, following a narrow and wonderful trail with some very technical parts. I´ve been surprised and I ´ve loved it. There where some very close points of the track to the glacier, on top, the majestic crater with continous smoke coming out. The start has been fast, with dense heat and a heavy duty trail with dry lava and pressured heated stones of all sizes that would put my shoes resistance to the test.
It wasn´t until one hour that I caught the rythm, heavy legs and some considerable heat pressure on my chest. Oihana started with a good rythm and got some distance ahead of us . I was a bit ahead of Anna and slowly the distance got bigger. Heat was taking its toll and it was important not to forget hidratation. The air was dry. Inside the forest temperatures were lower but the tree roots were a challenge and some birds had their say. At around the 3 hours mark we reach the finish line, almost 30 km and 900m+ with a average beating of 155p and a max of 171p. At the last downhill and with 50min to go, my ankle was a bit funny and I had to stop because of the pain, little by little got back to my previous rythm to finish with a smile and pleased with the overall achieved pace. We have just finished day one and the sensations have bene very good. Hope the ankle resists and the rest works after going 1700m- to push hard again. Ah, and the Villarica throbs!
